The much awaited 5-door SUV, the Mahindra Thar Rox, has made its formal debut in India. This debut is a major continuation of the Thar tradition, coming after the new generation 3-door SUV was introduced on August 15, 2020. Engine Options for Mahindra Thar Rox

Two engine options for the Mahindra Thar Rox are reportedly planned: a 2.0L turbo-petrol and a 2.2L turbo-diesel. Two versions of the petrol engine, with 160 HP and 170 HP, will be offered. In contrast, there will be two different states of tune available for the diesel engine, which may produce 132 HP and 171 HP, respectively. A 6-speed manual gearbox (MT) and a 6-speed automatic gearbox (AT) are the other two available gearbox choices.

In comparison to the current 3-door variant, the 5-door Thar will have a more sophisticated suspension system. It will have a back penta-link suspension system and shock absorbers with frequency selective damping (FSD) adapted from Scorpio-N. Moreover, the Thar Rox will have a manually locked differential at the back and an electrical brake-locking differential up front. It will also include a lever-operated low-ratio transfer case, just like the three-door Thar.

There are features like Intelli-Turn Assist and off-road crawl control that off-road aficionados will find appreciated. The Thar Rox provides two breakover angles of 23.6 degrees, four approach angles of 41.3 degrees, and three departure angles of 36.1 degrees for off-road mobility. It is suitable for difficult terrains as well, with a 650 mm water-wading depth.

Design of Mahindra Thar Rox

The Thar Rox has undergone more modifications from Mahindra than was first thought. The thick B-pillars are accommodated by the triangular design of the rear quarter glass. When the top is removed, the Thar Rox has a visually pleasing profile, even though this design could look a little clunky on the hard-top trim.

The Thar Rox also has a sloping roof design, which has generated conflicting views on the internet. The SUV has a new look thanks to redesigned alloy wheels, which are not present on the 3-door model.
